Tailored coaching providers, Innovate2Succeed (i2s), and FdK Design Consultants welcomed approximately 50 attendees to their successful Wake Up Design conference at Surrey University Business School on Thursday 4th May 2017, where they presented the principles and advantages of applying design thinking to business innovation.
Through experimentation and collaboration, design thinking finds new and effective ways of problem solving to transform products, services and cultures.
A series of inspiring presentations and interactive sessions were held at the all-day event, providing insight on how companies can harness design thinking as an integral and sophisticated resource through service design, experience design, product design, co-design and design funding.
Discussing the various elements of design thinking, speakers emphasised the importance of gaining empathy with users, brainstorming solutions, encouraging input from the entire team and creating prototypes to test and refine ideas.
Attendees praised the organisers for its rich content and targeted approach to providing design thinking insights and practical help to grow: “It was fantastic for us to attend; we’ve adopted a new way of thinking as a result of the event,” commented Laurence Grant, Director, Shaking Hands.
“I found the day extremely inspiring. Please do let me know when you are organising more design events as I would very much like to embrace this way of working,” said Jeannie Satchell, Growth Hub Champion.
“The Wake Up Design event was a wonderful opportunity to inspire businesses that are looking for new ways to harness innovation through identifying user needs, idea generation, collaboration and testing. We were thrilled to create this enthusiasm in businesses who are aiming to become thought leaders in their industry. I look forward to learning how these concepts will help them become more user-centred and flourish in the marketplace,” highlighted Lukasz Liebersbach, Innovation Advisor, i2s and Oxford Innovation Services.
i2s is delivered by Oxford Innovation in collaboration with the Enterprise M3 (em3) Growth Hub and is funded by The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Enterprise Europe Network (EEN); and Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency.
